Each night during Ramadan (happening now), our Muslim friends break their daily fast with prayer and a meal called an iftar, and we’ve been invited to join the party on Wednesday night, April 20.
The program will begin at 7:30 with informal introductions. We will then have a short presentation on Ramadan from the leader of the Turkish Center, follwed by a chance to ask questions and a guided community conversation.
When the sun sets, we will hear the call to prayer, break the fast and eat a wonderful Turkish meal. Sometime between the call to prayer and 9:30 our Muslim friends will have their evening prayer and have invited us to observe.
The learning and eating times are very informal. If you care to participate in the prayer time, we ask that you remove your shoes when enter the carpeted prayer room. It is a nice gesture for women to cover their heads with a scarf during prayer time, but not required for non-Muslims.
This is a free event. The food is being provided by our Turkish friends but donations are always appreciated and help sustain the planning of future similar events.
