This call is hosted by the Christian Peacebuilding Network (CPN), a multi-org group we helped found, and is part of a series of monthly conversations to help connect Christian peacebuilders and discuss themes related to peacebuilding and the Christian faith.
Mzwandile Nkutha and Steve Schallert will introduce the work of Iziko Lamaqabane and its pilgrimage to heal colonial wounds, disrupt systemic violence, and cultivate faith formed by and expressed in liberative praxis. By working in relational solidarity with urban peace and justice practitioners throughout Africa, Iziko serves those active at the site of struggle by facilitating spaces of retreat, exchange, and collective learning grounded at the intersection of anabaptism, black liberation theology, and critical consciousness.
During this CPN call, Mzwandile and Steve will share about their experience cultivating solidarity both on the grassroots level and also inter-culturally and cross-continentally. After introducing some frameworks Iziko has found helpful, meeting participants will go into breakout rooms to further explore how we have and can show up in relational solidarity with one another.
If you’re a Christian peacebuilder, join us for this online discussion to talk and process together about the following questions.
Discussion questions:
How do we walk with one another meaningfully across cultures and continents in the work of peace? What positive examples have you seen or experienced?
What considerations must we prioritize to show up effectively as allies with one another? What core needs and interests (acknowledged or unacknowledged) must we be aware of in our efforts to cultivate solidarity?
