Kingian Nonviolence Core Training: Foundations of Kingian Nonviolence Conflict Reconciliation

Kingian Nonviolence Conflict Reconciliation is an approach to conflict and community leadership that offers values and methods for anyone who wants to use conflict constructively in their personal life, in groups, or in the context of community issues.

Kingian Nonviolence provides both practices and principles for positive peace and is rooted in the philosophy and leadership of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the leadership of the U.S. Civil Rights Movement. The curriculum was codified by Rev. Dr. Bernard LaFayette Jr. and David Jehnsen, both of whom served on Dr. King’s staff and sought to make lessons and tools from the Kingian legacy and Civil Rights Movement available for people to address today’s conflicts, concerns, and conditions.

THIS 16-HOUR CORE TRAINING WILL INCLUDE:

  • 4 Pillars of Kingian Nonviolence

  • Social Dynamics of Nonviolence

  • 6 Principles (the will) for viewing and transforming conflict

  • 6 Steps (the skill) for engaging with conflict and organizing a campaign

  • Definitions of violence and nonviolence

  • Types and levels of conflict, and how they escalate and de-escalate

  • Dialectical thinking

  • A brief history of the Civil Rights Movement and some of Dr. King’s philosophies

Peace Catalyst is proud to offer this course in partnership with On Earth Peace (OEP), which has been involved with Kingian Nonviolence leadership since 2009. In these nearly 15 years, OEP has trained community leaders, certified Kingian trainers and organizers, and walked with individuals and groups as they addressed issues in their communities. OEP offers introductory training, advanced training, and accompaniment and consultation for changemakers who want to apply Kingian Nonviolence as a tool for today’s problems.
