Support for Ukranian Relief Efforts

As the Ukrainian crisis unfolds, many are asking how they can support the Ukrainian people right now. Options are abundant, from donating to large, reputable organizations doing incredible work (NPR: Want to support the people in Ukraine? Here’s how you can help), to booking a vacation in an AirBnB in a town under siege (e.g. Kharkiv or Odessa)(CNN: People around the world are booking Airbnbs in Ukraine. They don’t plan to check in).

If you’d like to donate to people who are doing work on the ground, Peace Catalyst International also has a growing partnership with the World Evangelical Alliance’s Peace and Reconciliation Network (PRN). PRN has a network of leaders in the region who are working to provide humanitarian relief and counseling services to Ukrainians in Ukraine, Poland, and Moldova (donate to their work here, specifically for refugee work in the Lviv and Volyn regions and at the border crossings with Poland). You can read below for additional ways to contribute financially and get connected to the work on the ground.

1. Bearers of Peace, Ukraine

More specifically and personally, our Peace Catalyst peacebuilders in Bosnia, Bryan and Stephanie Carey, have been in touch with Oksana Grytsiuta with the Ukrainian nonprofit, Bearers of Peace (also head of PRN Ukraine). Bearers of Peace has been working at the border crossing with Poland in the Lviv region, transporting supplies to Kjiv and as far as conflict regions in eastern Ukraine (see the map below).

Oksana Grytsiuta has organized a team of about 40 women to distribute relief supplies in the Lviv region. She has been able to summon chaplains from Warsaw to the Ukraine border to serve as the first point of contact for counseling services for refugees. They also work to create first aid kits and distribute them to teams of field doctors.

2. Nazarene Compassionate Ministries – Ukraine Crisis Response

Our Bosnia team also has many personal friends working with the Nazarene Church, and there are teams of Nazarene leaders in Moldova, Hungary, Romania, and Poland who are helping at the border, translating, making food, and creating space for refugees in their homes. Please go to their Ukraine Crisis response page to learn more and donate.

3. Connect to the Ukrainian Church

You can also check out the following message from Valerii Antoniuk, representing the Baptist Union of Ukraine. In the video, Pastor Valerii Antoniuk invites us all to reach out to him and to the Baptist Union of Ukraine to connect, and he provides contact information to do so.
