Connecting in Community Step 9: TAKE ACTION FOR CHANGE

For the end of the year, we’re going through 10 small, easy things you can do to start connecting in your community by understanding yourself, your context, the people in your community, and the conflicts in your setting. Check out Step 1 , Step 2, Step 3, Step 4 , Step 5, Step 6, Step 7, and Step 8.

Step 9 to connecting in your community is to TAKE ACTION FOR CHANGE.

We believe that part of our job as peacebuilders is working for justice in our communities. Restoring relationships is the heart of our work, but violence and unequal systems and cultures also need to be transformed.

So for this step, identify a societal conflict that’s close to your heart or a division that’s directly harming your neighbors.

  • Try to figure out what groups or organizations are addressing that issue locally.

  • Consider what you can do to take action or to support that work right now.

This might look like signing a petition or writing to an elected representative, or attending an event or a webinar, but what’s one action you can do right now to take a step toward change in your community?
