Connecting in Community Step 3: KNOW YOUR NEIGHBORS AND FELLOW COMMUNITY MEMBERS

For the end of the year, we’re giving you 10 small, easy steps to connecting in your community. You can find Step 1 here and Step 2 here.

We’re starting to go a bit deeper now, so step 3 is to KNOW YOUR NEIGHBORS AND FELLOW COMMUNITY MEMBERS.

Before we can do any kind of meaningful community peacebuilding, we have to know who our neighbors actually are, so take a few minutes and do some internet searching to find out the demographics of your area and what kind of people live near you. You may be surprised by what you learn!

If you want to take another step, you can also learn about or experience a local cultural group you’re less familiar with in-person by visiting a related museum, cultural center, or community event.

  • What groups of people live in your area?

  • Where do they live?

  • How do they interact with other groups, if at all?

  • How are these different groups represented in your own relationships?

There’s always more to learn, so no matter where you are on your peacebuilding journey, this is a helpful and practical way to take a step forward!
